(owner's comments), "my goal was to make this a boat a true sail-away cruiser, something that i specified (but didn't get) when i first purchased the boat. I did a lot of the work myself, and with the expert help of tom berryhill, our project manager at whiticar boat works, ft. Pierce, fl, virtually all aspects of the boat were rebuilt, refit or renewed: the engines, engine room, props, thru hull fittings, electrical wiring, electronics, interior amenities, anchor system, trampoline, cushions, lighting and more., during the last two years, the engines were removed and i rebuilt them personally, with new injectors starting motors, wiring and plumbing. Meanwhile, i replaced the engine room soundproofing with modern mylar-lined panels, making engine maintenance a pleasure. In the cockpit, 2 new yanmar engine control panels were installed. All throughhull fittings were replaced. New cutoff valves for the fuel system were installed and the racor fuel filters rebuilt. The boat was completely rewired with a paneltronics panel, xantrex charger and magma inverter/charger. Interior light fixtures and switches are all new, as are the running and deck/steaming lights. I kept the b&g sailing instruments, but installed a new raymarine autopilot, radar, chartplotter with ais, and vhs radio. I replaced an old tv with a 2014 32' samsung hdtv (1080p, 120 hz) and hdmi wireless hub, so that the chartplotter screen can be displayed on the big screen, as well as photos and videos wirelessly displayed from any onboard pc, something i've wanted to do but put off since first buying the boat. I also installed a 2014 fusion am/fm/cd/dvd player with ipad connectivity, and bluetooth streaming from your phone. Sound is funneled through six speakers in three zones, and includes two new clarion marine speakers in the cockpit., inside, all european-style cabinet hinges were replaced, with new teak plugs to assure tightness. All bed cushions were replaced with high-quality closed cell foam, and new cockpit cushions were fabricated. All three heads have new jabsco pump assemblies, as well as new faucets. The galley and both guest heads have new corian countertops. Both the refrigerator and freezer have new frigoboat cooling systems. The panes in two fixed windows and three hatches in the main salon are new, as well as screens for all opening windows below. All 42 moonlight hatch handles were replaced, as well as 18 latch handles. The freshwater pumps and accumulator pressure tanks are new, as well as a hot/cold transom shower., on deck, there is a new trampoline from sunshine yacht products that the kids will love to bounce on. The anchor system has been replaced with a new lewmar windlass, new chain/rode and new rocna anchor. New safety lines were installed and all stanchions were rebedded. The crossbeam and center deck beam, as well as the boom, bimini supports and davits were awlgripped. We replaced the standard cockpit table with a teak and bamboo drop-leaf design., undoubtedly, i've left out some new or rebuilt equipment, which you can find in the equipment inventory. What i want you to understand is that this boat has given me six years of wonderful cruising. My desire is to sell the boat to a new owner in no-hassle, sail-away condition.", sailing history (owner's comments), "the boat was launched in november 1997 at the catana factory, canet en roussillon, france. The original owner was from vancouver, bc. He sailed her to the caribbean, where she spent the next four years based in bonaire. Experiencing health problems, he eventually sailed her to palm beach, fl, where she was first refitted in 2005., i bought her in may 2005. After a 1 month shakedown in the near bahamas, i returned to florida for a regular haulout and to repair some minor problems. I then sailed her up to newport for the summer, before heading to antigua in the caribbean. After exploring the lesser antilles islands, i sailed her from st. Marteen to the mediterranean, by way of the azores. I spent two years in the mediterranean, wintering in marmaris, turkey, before returning to the caribbean via the 2007 atlantic rally for cruisers (arc). The next three years were spent cruising the caribbean, first to trinidad, then to the abc islands. I then cruised the western caribbean, spending summers in cartagena, the san blas islands in panama, and the rio dulce in guatemala. I next sailed to the bahamas and from there to maine and nova scotia, before sailing south. Note, a story of our passage from bonaire to jamaica was published in sailing magazine (august, 2010): ., having indulged my cruising dreams and getting older, i decided to sell the boat. Rather than sell the boat as is, i decided that i owed it to myself (my karma), the boat, and to the future owners to renew the boat and its systems. This renewal-refit means that the future owner could sail-away on a turn-key' boat. So for the last two years, my partner and i have been living aboard, while systematically renewing all systems either with new, rebuilt or refit equipment. Realistically, i realize that the over $150,000 that we spent in this process will never be recovered by the selling price of the boat. However, my hope is that the new owner will love the boat as i have, and appreciate the work that we've done.", special features of yacht (owner's comments), "the catana has a reputation for being the mercedes' of catamarans. It was designed for blue water sailing, with approximately 3' of underdeck clearance. Made of twaron aramid fiber, it is both super strong and light, making it a fast passage maker. Her dagger boards give it great windward performance. The asymmetric hulls, and striking catana shape are unique and attractive, making ownership special. I have always enjoyed it when other sailors motor over to the boat to say hi and tell me how nice they think the catanas are. Because all lines lead to the cockpit, and with three powerful andersen electric winches, single handing is made easy. And for a couple, my catana 471 owners version is perfect for cruising, easy to handle, comfortable and fun to own., a 3-week shake-down' cruise in the bahamas january 2014 assured us that all systems are operational and functioning smoothly. This boat will appeal to the future owner because it is a well-recognized design. Our boat is one of catana's early production boats which have a reputation for strength and excellent fabrication. In 1999, cruising world awarded the catana 471 cruising catamaran of the year'., we have created a binder with a complete inventory list of all of the equipment on board. All this equipment is stowed in clear, covered and numbered plastic boxes. We also have this inventory in an excel file, both by name and by storage box, making your task of organizing your boat as easy as possible., accidents and mishaps: a new sail drive was installed on the port side in 2011, after i ran into a floating piece of 2" diameter polypropylene line. In 2010 the starboard rudder was repaired and reinforced because of a loose rudder shaft.", disclaimer the company offers the details of this vessel in good faith but cannot guarantee or warrant the accuracy of this information nor warrant the condition of the vessel.
